I got to the school at noon to start preparing. We went in and made sure all of the kids knew where their groups should be. I helped decorate everyone's areas and made sure they had everything they need. We had some pizza brought in at 3pm. After the kids ate, they put on their costumes and makeup. We turned all the lights off and started welcoming the first guests. There was a great turnout of almost 300 kids and their families. We learned a lot and gathered some feedback to improve things for years to come.

I created a Google form for all of the junior high students to fill out so I could get their sizes. They filled that out so we could get them ordered. The shirts have been ordered and I am very excited because the final design looks AMAZING!! The kids have all made their groups and started brainstorming costume/theme ideas. Mrs. Meyers in the front office put our flyer in the Junior High's newsletter to spread the word to parents. We have received several candy donations for the kids to hand out. Mrs. Clayton also sent out emails to National Honors Society students to try and get some help from older volunteers running the games in the gym. Their next meeting is Thursday, so I will go to get more information. The t-shirts should be delivered by then so I will sort them out.
My partner, Sydney and I decided to help out the Junior High and make their Haunted Halls one of our Service Projects. We started by putting together our pitch day presentation. I had talked to my mom (Mrs. Bloomer) and Mrs. Alcorn, the librarian at the Junior High to try and get all the details. They wanted to recreate what Doe Creek Middle School had done in the trails over by the current Intermediate School. With moving buildings and COVID happening, that tradition had sort of gotten away. The goal was to move it indoors this year to avoid any conflicts with weather. The "7th grade hallways" are going to be the more friendly ones for the younger kids, and the "8th grade hallways" will be the scary ones. There will be candy and various stations around the halls. There will not be an entry fee, but Riley donation buckets will be set up around the school, since this event is to help support the Junior High to be a continued "Red Wagon" school. In the cafeteria the book fair will be set up for families after they go through the Haunted Halls. Then there will be bouncy houses and obstacle courses set up in the gymnasium for the kids with the purchase of a $5 wristband. Those proceeds go to benefit the athletic department. This event will take place on October 28th from 5pm-8pm. Our Pitch Day presentation went really well. Everyone liked our project idea and was interested in learning more about it. After the plan was finalized we created a t-shirt design and I set up a group email list for the members of the club at the Junior High. Once I had that list, I emailed them a Google form for Emergency Contact info and their t-shirt orders. We are still trying to collect those, but did receive the final shirt design from the lady (pictured above). We are going to try to place that order on Monday for members of the club and staff, then if it's successful, we will open it to more people in the school and/or community. |
