For the second year, this legacy project was a huge success. Our Southern Hancock community went over and above to be generous and donate for the holiday season. All of the items that we donated to the Hope House will go to families in need and bring a little joy into those people's lives. I am so glad we were able to do this project again because I feel like it is very important to continue this tradition. I hope that a group will work with Mr. Burk to continue this project next year, and for years to come. This could become a big part of the Service Learning class, High School, and the community as a whole. Next year they can take it to an even further level, possibly getting NPE involved and expanding to more local businesses. The support was amazing and it just goes to show was a wholesome community we are a part of.

We ended the NP Giving Trees on Monday the 11th. On Tuesday we went around to the businesses and other schools to collect the trees and donations. Other people from our class also helped us. There was a ton of items. My mom had a lot of them from the Junior High so I helped bring those over. Since most of the donations at the high school came from the seniors, we didn't have to count all of the items for class cup points. Wednesday long day was delivery day. Unfortunately, I was unable to go because I had the State competition for We The People downtown that day. It went really well though, and the Hope House was very grateful. We donated over 1.400 items as a community.
It was in full swing after we got back from break. The high school had already set up the grade level trees before break and Student Council decorated them for additional Class Cup points. On the Tuesday after we got back, we delivered the trees to the other schools and businesses with the help of other groups from our class. Sydney and I took the trees to the businesses (Cakehole and Tia's) and flyers (Subway and the Library), since we had asked permission before. Trees were delivered to NPJH, NPI, Sugar Creek, and Brandywine. Just a few days later that week, we started hearing about how many donations were coming in. It was amazing. Mr. Burk asked us to print one of our flyers in poster size and hang it in the school so we did that.
We spent the week before Thanksgiving making arrangements for all of the logistics of the project. I created an Amazon wishlist with all of the items that the Hope House requested. I also made a QR code linked to that list so that we could put that on flyers and the front of tags for an easier way to donate. I made a second QR code that went on a different label on the back of the tag. This was a link to the generic list of items that the Hope House had asked for. We stuck labels on a lot of the tags for the trees, as well as putting ribbons on them. The office staff came up and took a lot of our tags and helped us so that the process would go quicker. Sydney created a bunch of flyers for us to send out as promotional pieces. We also set up a point system for the items as they are collected. At the high school, this counts towards the class cup points.
